Peggy Hartanto, a Surabayan-based fashion designer, has proven that determination and hard work is the inevitable formula for success. Known for her originality, her distinctive designs have put her name on the list of noteworthy local fashion designers to watch for. Several Hollywood A-list has worn Peggy’s collection, like Bella Thorne, Demi Lovato, Gigi Hadid, Awkwafina, Giuliana Rancic, and name a few. And what is more, Peggy’s collection has been marketed into the United States, the United Kingdom, to Saudi Arabia. It has been a long journey, but Peggy doesn’t hesitate to share the tale to her success.

“I started my fashion career during my study in Australia when I landed an internship at Collette Dinnigan”—one of the well-known fashion and interior designers in Australia as Peggy recalled her rookie days. After her internship, she landed a job in the production section and quality control section of Collette Dinnigan. Her days working at Collette Dinnigan gave her extensive experience and strengthened Peggy’s skill as a fashion designer. With a determination to fulfill her passion, Peggy eventually left Collette Dinnigan to start her eponymous line, PEGGY HARTANTO.

The establishment of the PEGGY HARTANTO brand in 2012 was the first step Peggy took to establish a reputation as fashion design in her own right. Shortly after establishing her brand, Peggy was offered to showcase her debut collections in Jakarta Fashion Week as a representative of Raffles College of Design and Commerce. “We—Peggy and team thought that this show would be a perfect chance for us to show our first collection of the ready-to-wear label,” said Peggy. Her decision was right considered the successful reception of her debut runway.

Daring in its simplicity, Peggy’s motto since day one is embedded in each of her designs. Indeed, her efforts and passion can be seen through her covetable pieces. I did the pattern myself, to ensure that every single fit of the dress will fall perfectly on every woman. Since the style of our collection is effortless and minimalist, it’s highly essential to make sure that the fit is perfect,” explained Peggy about her creative process.
